Economist Woolf: only 6.5% of Vermonters work more than one job - VT Digger

Moonlight in Vermont? Not so much - only about one is 16 Vermonters work more than one job, economist Art Woolf reports. So when some politicians decry the supposed downside of our record low employment, is that just desperation talking?

"It is true that Vermonters are more likely than most Americans to work more than one job, but Vermont’s 6.5% share of multiple jobholders is not that much higher than the national average of 5.0%.  In either case, it’s hardly a large share of the labor force."

    I wonder what criteria is used to determine how many jobs people have. Is it the number of W-2’s reported to the state at tax time? Is this 6.5% of all VT residents or all VT jobholders? What about folks (like me) who have a registered small business and work two jobs as a independent contractor, getting a 1099 tax form?

    its not always about the percent, but more the specific population in that percent. 6.5% can be highly significant in seeing trends, that effect the entire state. In fact some significant trends can be, by percent, around 3% or even less…
