VT joins California in battle with Trump administration over miles-per-gallon requirements - WCAX

Should a state be allowed to set miles-per-gallon requirements on cars higher than those set by the federal government? California thinks so. So does Vermont. Trump administration doesn't, though. Game on!

"Vermont Natural Resources Secretary Julie Moore says she sees it as a significant states' rights issue. "Vermont's climate emissions are 40 percent transportation-related and so the idea that we would relax emissions is an anathema to the work we really need to do to address global climate change," Moore said."

    What they’re not saying is that the Trump MPG requirements are NOT rollbacks, they will actually make the requirements higher than they are now – just not as high as Obama wanted them. The Trump MPG package also will make Vermont highways safer by giving more leeway for SUV’s.
