With the media cameras clicking away, Vermont State Police led away 112 children from their homes at the Island Pond Community Church.

"Adults at the church were suspected of child abuse. Today’s Free Press includes a photo-retrospective of a period in Vermont history that some considered a breakthrough in protecting children, and others saw as overzealous government power in relation to religion and families."
