Vermont ‘bear whisperer’ has raised 300 orphan cubs - Rutland Herald

Ben Kilham and sister Phoebe are caring for 25 orphaned bear cubs this summer. It’s what they do - they are ursine caregivers.

“Come on, kids,” Phoebe Kilham, 67, called into the forest one recent morning. “Come on, kids.” Within minutes, several 8-month-old cubs came charging through the trees, jostling for position, roughhousing inside a shelter and eating apples piled on the floor."
