Gov. Phil Scott and other state officials have released a concept paper they hope will start the ball rolling on the state importing prescription drugs from Canada.
“The “concept paper” that Republican Gov. Phil Scott and others spoke of Tuesday is separate from a formal application the state will submit to the federal Department of Health and Human Services by July 1.
Officials are submitting the paper in hopes it will be used by the federal government as U.S. officials set up rules that will enable Americans to legally and safely import lower-cost prescription drugs from Canada.
The Trump administration announced its drug importation plan last summer. It has yet to begin the rule-making process.
Vermont is one of several states hoping to import drugs from Canada.
