Will mail-in ballots to every voter make elections more inclusive and democratic? Or just make them more confusing? Like so much about state government, the pandemic has thrown the 2020 election into uncertainty.
The office is floating a plan to send every registered voter a mail-in ballot, to discourage people from voting in person at the polls. Under current law, Vermont voters can send in their ballots through the mail, but they need to request them ahead of time. Will Senning, Vermont’s director of elections, told the Senate Government Operations Committee Thursday that sending ballots to all registered voters could encourage as much as 80% of those who vote to do so by mail."
