Opinion: “Unfortunately, outrageously” not everyone wears mask, state senator says - Mountain Times

State senator Dick McCormack (D-Windsor) wonders what people who won’t wear masks in public are thinking. To him, it’s a social obligation.

“Unfortunately, outrageously, not everyone is with the anti-Covid effort. On my rare trips away from home, to pick up groceries curbside, or to drop off recycling at what I still call the Dump (I’m old school), I’m horrified at how many folks I see without face masks and not keeping 6 feet apart. Some are negligent and irresponsible. Some subscribe to an ideology that they have a God-given constitutional right to spread a deadly virus, a perverted distortion of liberty. (Our president is much to blame for that.)"

Perhaps the Senator could take his wisdom back home to NY. We don’t need it here. In fact masks may do more harm than good.

It is not an obligation. Do you uphold the Vermont and US constitution? We have had no active COVID-19 cases in several counties for a few weeks now so a mask is not necessary. There is only 87 active case in the state of VT and 1 ICU patient. We have been at the bottom for the lowest cases the whole time across the country! Its representatives like you who are ruining VT and our economy where only the rich will move too and those who like to be controlled. I have worked in the medical field for 30 years and the educational field for 20 years. We are the NEK and we do not need to be treated like Chittenden County and there is no Pandemic here!

More ludicrous is the fact that so many people wear masks… or some sort of facial covering with no idea how to wear them, handle them, dispose of them or operate in anything resembling aseptic technique. There are probably more people spreading Covid-19 that are mask wearers than those not wearing masks. I have 35+ years in the pharmaceutical/biotechnological field, a degree in BioChem, I used to run a Microbiology lab, yet my face will be one of those “negligent and irresponsible” people you so negligently and irresponsibly (certainly not arrogantly???) discuss.
