Oh joy! Vermont civilians to get first ‘taste’ of MREs - Seven Days

You’re in the Army Now! The National Guard will be delivering the famous - some might say ‘infamous’ - MRE rations to collection points at five Vermont airports. “Meals Ready to Eat” are also known as “ "Meals Rejected by Everyone," "Meals, Rarely Edible," "Meals Requiring Enemas," and "Meals Refusing to Exit." During an African famine in the 1980’s, they were briefly known as “Meals Rejected by Ethiopians.”

"A spokesman for the Vermont National Guard told Seven Days on Tuesday that 12 to 15 guard members will be on site with the capacity to provide roughly 26,880 MREs per day. The Vermont Foodbank works with some 215 partner groups across the state, including local food shelves, meal sites and senior centers. CEO John Sayles said in a press release that the Barre-based nonprofit has seen anywhere from 30 to 100 percent increases in the need for food assistance. The need is different depending on the partner organization, according to the Foodbank."

    Bash MREs all you want….they are better than nothing. “A wealthy man has many problems…a hungry man has one problem”. When people start to get a grip on how badly our food supply has been compromised they will not worry about the kung flu as much.
