Ranked-choice voting backers missed the deadline to get it on the city meeting ballot in March. Better luck next year – or not.
"Joan Shannon, D-Burlington City Council, sits on the charter change committee. She says they weren’t given enough time to thoroughly review it. “It was held up simply because it had only been brought to the council one week before it had to be submitted for the last meeting, so we just didn't have time to get to it,” Shannon told WCAX News. “Occasionally, something only takes one meeting but this is a new voting system so it's going to take more time than that. The last time we put IRV on the ballot, I'm thinking we probably had four or five meetings about it."
