Legislature poised to expunge marijuana convictions - VT Digger

If you’re going to make buying pot legal, then first expunge convictions of Vermonters who bought it illegally, social justice advos say. The Legislature is inclined to agree - at least on that point.

"Leaders in the House and Senate say they support a measure that would automatically expunge the criminal records of those convicted of possessing two ounces or less of the drug.."

    If I got a ticket for driving 35mph in a 25mph zone, and a year later that road’s speed was changed to 35mph, my ticket will not be expunged.

    Convictions for illegal behavior should not be overturned simply because that behavior has been reclassified. It was still illegal when the individual broke the law and was convicted.
