Vermont’s health care payment system isn’t working well and must be changed, Agency of Human Services Secretary Mike Smith said. Among other things it needs a “new leadership strategy.”
"The goal is to keep patients healthier while reducing health care costs. By the end of 2022, the plan was to have it provide healthcare for about 70% of Vermonters. The health care payment system is now covering about 42% of Vermonters. The federal government thinks the program should be at about 58% at this point, said Ena Backus, Vermont’s director of health care reform."
