Guv proposes budget, hopes to attract more new Vermonters - WPTZ

The dean of the Vermont press corps, Stewart Ledbetter of WPTZ, reports how Gov. Phil Scott hopes to meet the fiscal challenges created by the state’s demographic challenges.

"The $6.33 billion plan would raise overall state spending about 2 percent -- though K-12 education is projected to rise 5 percent -- without raising new taxes or fees on residents. He said Vermonters cannot afford to pay more. The governor instead proposed a series of strategies intended to retain more young people in Vermont and attract working families and individuals to move here, including a full-throated welcome to legal immigrants.

    How about trying to keep native Vermonters here after they graduate from institutes of higher learning ? I really have not heard much about this alternative .
