Green Mountain Transit Authority, the state’s largest public transportation provider, is offering free rides to skiers who want to get from downtown Stowe to the ski lifts up the Mountain Road.
"Vermont resorts and towns have worked for a decade or so to improve the "pre-ski" experience, Smith said, and the transit service has tried to further that goal. Pre- and apres-ski shops and restaurants are prominently featured on the route maps. The resort has helped subsidize the bus service, as have the Stowe Area Association, Spruce Peak Realty and the Town of Stowe. Buses offer visitors a welcome that is more relaxed, cost-effective and with a lower carbon footprint than the automobile, chimes in Stowe Mountain Resort on its "Getting Here" website page: "You'll save on gas, you won't have to worry about parking and you'll be doing something great for our environment."
