What city workers are calling an unprecedented amount of trash was left on Burlington’s popular North Beach this weekend, most of it deposited by large numbers of young people.
"Cindi Wight, Executive Director of the Burlington Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department says everything from cans and glass bottles, to empty coolers and unfinished food scraps littered the sand. Wight points to a ton of younger people leaving these mounds of garbage. "Our campground manager, Alex, said it's the busiest he's ever seen it," she said. "Ninety percent of the trash is found in the area in which the college students are hanging out." Luckily, there were a few visitors, like Elizia Meskill of Essex Junction and Ian McClein of Burlington, who felt obligated to help with the clean up effort.”
