The alleged carjacking that terrorized a Warren woman August 30 took place at the same time as when Washington County law enforcement were investigating the reported entry of a man with a long gun into a state office building. Also, the victim is the aunt of one of the five teens killed in a 2016 collision with a vehicle driven by Steven Bourgoin. As reported by Vermont State House Headliners, the release the suspect without bail resulted in a public outcry and a responding press release by Washington County State's Attorney Rory Thibault.
"“In other states, there’s a minimum 15-year sentence if you [carjack],” Hall said. “I’m not sure why Vermont is so lenient on the whole topic.”"
