Like their equally progressive counterparts in Montpelier city government, Burlington officials are faced with tough spending cuts due to Covid-19 revenue shortfall. They’re hoping the feds will bail them out.
"He says he’s hopeful funding for states and municipalities will be included in Congress’s next major coronavirus relief bill, but the city will spend the month of May creating a budget in preparation for the worst. “If we don’t get it, we will have very serious cuts that we will have no choice but to make,” Weinberger said. “I think we have to plan for the worst or if not the very worst, a least a bad case while still hoping with some optimism for better and we’re going to do everything we can working with our federal delegation to advocate and secure a better outcome.””
