It’s a dog’s life. Tiny, poor Bellows Falls just can’t afford its police dog anymore.
"Kudos to the dog, but Bellows Falls cannot afford this luxury," McAuliffe said. But when acting Police Chief David Bemis defended having a police dog by saying the department raised money from the community to pay for the dog's veterinarian care and food, Trustee Jonathan Wright asked where the revenues and costs showed up in the village's annual budget. Bemis and Checchi had no answer and neither did Town Finance Director Shannon Burbela."
