Why is it so important to say in the headlines that Balint is the first “gay woman” to lead the Senate? If some other woman that was not gay won, would the headline say that this woman is “heterosexual, married to a man woman”? Can’t a person win strictly on their experience and merit without being labeled gay, transgender, etc?
