500 sign petition opposing BLM/LGBT signs at Mill River school - True North Reports

In a rural Rutland county school district, flying the BLM and pride flags at local schools is getting community pushback.

“Art Peterson, a local resident seeking office as a state representative in the Rutland-2 district, disagreed with the decision, and helped create and circulate a petition against flying political flags at the schools. “A group of us felt that something that important would require more than a unilateral decision by the school board,” he told True North. “We felt that the public needed to weigh in on it, and that wasn’t done. So we started the petition, circulated it, and got an awful lot of signatures.” The petition urges the school board to present the issue to voters by Australian Ballot and to call a special meeting to address questions from the community."

Public schools are taxpayer funded, and taxpayers should not be forced to have their tax dollars (which are supposed to be supporting education) paying to support particular political organizations or endorse particular political positions.

This is what you call a freedom loving Democracy using it’s 1st Amendment rights to voice a difference of opinion. If that scares someone, maybe they should move to China where voicing an opinion differing from the party line is not tolerated.

“But Adrienne Raymond, one of the school board members who voted to raise the flags, said for her it’s not about the Black Lives Matter organization, but the message on the flag.” So, when do we fly the Make America Great Again flag over our schools? Not to support one organization over another, of course, but just to support the message. Who doesn’t want America to be great? What could be more unifying than that?
