A: I am a proud Vermonter and it upsets me to no end to watch as urban refugees flock here for various reasons, then set forth making changes to the State and change it so that it more resembles what they moved away from. Our environment and our culture have been changed so much over that last 50 years that it is my belief that my grandparents would have an easier time adapting to the new technology than they would the new social, educational, and especially political (because let’s face it, politics affects every aspect of life these days) changes that these new “Vermonters” have foisted upon us. They’d like to think that we’d be living in caves and eating dirt if not for them blessing us with their benevolent presence. Fact of the matter is that before they got here, my mother, and father’s generation could afford to have “camps” on our lakes and ponds. Now, unless they were in your family and handed down, thanks to these flatlanders and their trust funds, these camps are so expensive that your average real Vermonter can no longer afford them. Of course you can at least partially blame real Vermonters for becoming complacent in allowing these changes because some of us are sick of butting heads with these new folks and no longer go to town meetings or even vote. That is sad isn’t it ? Are you getting any ideas for stories from my comments ? How about, "How the Hippy Invasion Changed Vermont, The Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nothing but the Truth., because it ain’t all peace, love, and roses. Am I bitter about the way that these invaders have and continue to change my cultural heritage and the chance to pass it on ? Bet your ass I am !
Sincerely,Pat Finnie
